Company History

Narrow Road is an Austin-based investor, developer, and operator of multifamily residential real estate founded by Anthony Clarke in 2020 after a decade of experience in institutional real estate investment. Our name stems from our commitment to walk alongside our investors, forming meaningful relationships built on a sense of trust and focus on the future.

Anthony Clarke

founder & CEO

As CEO, Anthony is responsible for leading Narrow Road’s strategic planning and growth across all business activities – development, investments, and property management. Anthony is a Chicago native, and graduated from Stanford University with a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

Before founding Narrow Road, Anthony spent eight years in real estate private equity, most recently as a Senior Vice President in PIMCO’s Austin office. At PIMCO, Anthony completed over $5B of real estate transactions primarily in the residential sector, including over $300M of multifamily projects in Austin. Prior to PIMCO, Anthony worked at Walton Street Capital & Kennedy Wilson.

Griff Whalen

Co-Founder and Chief Development Officer

Griff Whalen is Co-Founder and Chief Development Officer of Narrow Road Group, where he leads all land use, entitlement, predevelopment, and ground-up development activities across the firm’s portfolio. Since the firm’s inception in 2020, Griff has assembled, entitled, capitalized, and launched the start of construction on more than $250 million of multifamily development, representing 750+ units currently under construction. He continues to advance a $2.5+ billion, 6,000+ unit development pipeline. Griff has successfully navigated more than 30 zoning cases across complex market-rate, affordable, and public-private partnership projects. Originally from Ohio, he holds a B.S. in Engineering from Stanford University where he played football and then went on to a seven-year NFL career.

Mark Larson

Chief Financial Officer

Mark Larson serves as Chief Financial Officer, with executive oversight of the company’s accounting, finance, tax, human resources, and information technology functions. He also manages key relationships with capital markets stakeholders and private equity partners.

Before joining the firm, Mark was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Trinitas Ventures, a leading developer of by-design student housing and mixed-use communities. At Trinitas, he led accounting, finance, asset management, HR, and IT across a national portfolio of ground-up development and operating assets. Prior to Trinitas, Mark served as Director of Financial Planning and Analysis for the West Region of General Growth Properties, Inc., where he had full oversight of financial planning and performance management for more than 140 regional and super-regional malls.

Over his 28-year real estate career, Mark has played a leadership role in more than $8 billion in acquisitions, $5 billion in secured property refinancing, and $3 billion in development investments across student housing, multifamily, retail and commercial real estate.

He is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and an associate member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI). Mark holds a certificate in management accounting and earned his degree from the University of North Florida.

Mark Baumgarten

Partner, Asset Management

Mark is responsible for optimizing Narrow Road’s investment portfolio performance through strategic vision, data-driven decision making and operational excellence. He ensures assets meet financial targets while implementing value-add initiatives that maximize investor returns.

Before joining Narrow Road, Mark served as EVP, Property Management for Trinitas Ventures, overseeing a staff of 150 managing a $1.5B portfolio with $75M in annual revenue. Prior to Trinitas, Mark was Director of Property Management for American Tower Corporation and VP of Development, Residential Mixed-Use for General Growth Properties. Mark graduated from the University of Illinois with an Executive M.B.A. and Michigan State University with a B.A. in Socioeconomics. He is a licensed Real Estate Managing Broker and a member of ULI, NMHC, and NAA.

Case Lowry

Partner, Investments

As partner, Case leads the firm’s investment and growth initiatives, directing acquisitions, capital allocation, and sourcing and structuring investment opportunities while cultivating strategic investor relationships. Over his career with the firm, he has been involved in 40+ transactions representing more than $300 million in acquisitions and over $250 million in development activity. He is a Texas native who grew up in Dallas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in both Finance and Plan II Honors. He joined Narrow Road directly after undergraduate.

Alex Condos

Partner, Development

Alex is a multifamily development executive with over three decades of experience sourcing, entitling, and delivering institutional-quality housing across Texas and the broader Sun Belt. He has led or consulted on the development of more than 5,000 units (including over 2,000+ units in Austin) with total project costs exceeding $800 million, including high-rise, suburban, market-rate, and LIHTC communities. Alex brings deep expertise in site selection, entitlement strategy, capital structuring, and design execution. His portfolio includes award-winning developments such as Westover Oaks in San Antonio and The Prescott in Austin. Prior to joining Narrow Road, Alex held senior roles at Richman Southwest Development, Cambridge Development, Post Investment Group, and Alliance Residential. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BA from the University of Texas at Austin.
